Breeding Program

These are all crosses I’ve done. Eventually some I hope to add to my collection, but for right now I’ll keep separate what I’ve bought from what I’ve bred.

Clivia varietals

“Second”

C. miniata x self

The first time my Clivia bloomed, I just couldn’t help pollinating it with it’s own pollen. So technically my second Clivia. It’s a beautiful plant, still waiting for it to bloom…

I have one plant from this cross.

“Ghost2 Multipetal”

(Vico Yellow Ghost x Nakamura Vico Ghost) x Multipetal

As I said under the Ghost description, I’m not really a huge fan of it’s bloom. I’m hoping that by crossing it with the multipetal that it will close the gaps between the petals of it’s flower. We’ll see.

I have two surviving seedlings from this cross.

“Ruby’s Kids”

((Beach Bum x Bertie’s Bronze) x Hirao) x Multipetal

This is a cross between the beautiful bronze of “Ruby” and that fantastic Multipetal. Because I could, not because I felt anything on either needed to be improved. Though if I get multipetals with more reflex in the petals, I’d be pretty excited.

I have two surviving seedlings from this cross.

“Triplets”

C. Miniata x Multipetal

Because, why not? Again, if it gives me a new multipetal with less of a tulip shape, more reflex in the petals of the flower, it could be truly spectacular.

I have three surviving seedlings from this cross.

“Sarah’s Kids”

((C. miniata x C. caulscens) x Chubb Splash) x self

I actually wasn’t going to pollinate at all, but she had other plans. We’ll have to wait and see what she came up with.

I have eight surviving seedlings from this cross. One in particular is worth watching.

“Sarah’s Firsts”

((C. Miniata x C. caulscens) x Chubb Splash) x C. Miniata

These are very close to the same color and both are beautiful. And their both reliable, tough, prolific plants. And both bloomed at the same time, so why not?

I have 4 berries ripening from this cross, apparently the pollen from “First” wasn’t entirely compatible with “Sarah” as the pod parent.

“First’s Sarahs”

C. miniata x ((C. miniata x C. caulscens) x Chubb Splash)

Crossing back the other way, we see a huge jump in fertility.

I have ten berries ripening from this cross with “First” as the pod parent.
